Vivian A. Christman Obituary


Vivian A. Christman, 89, of Avon and formerly of Manchester, died Saturday May 24, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Vivian was born November 15, 1924 in Port Chester, NY., daughter of the late Robert B. & Marion (Hendershott) Allen. She was predeceased by her brother Robert J. Allen; and his daughter Debbie Spiegel. Vivian was predeceased by her first husband Thomas Vincent Warnick; and her late husband Peter Charles Christman. Vivian moved to Manchester as a child, she attended local schools and was a Graduate of Manchester High School with the Class of 1942. Vivian served as Secretary for the Class of 1942 Reunion's Committee for many years. She served in the U.S. Civil Service in Tokyo, Japan during WW II and also worked in the Historical Records Section at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. She enjoyed an extensive career as a secretary for Turbo, Power and Marine; Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and retired as an Executive Legal Secretary with United Technologies Corp. in Hartford, CT. Vivian was an avid golfer most of her life. She played and held office for the yearbook for the 9-Hole Group at the Farmington Country Club. She was also a member of the Blue Fox Run 9-Hole Ladies Golf Group. She enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Farmington Valley Senior Bowling League as recent as April 2014. She loved to swim. She had a real love for animals of all kinds. Most recently, Joan's dog Ruby. She grew up surrounded by pedigree dogs and horses in Westchester County, NY. Later she would ride the land near her father's stable in Manchester. She was a great photographer. She loved music, dancing and traveling. Vivian shared a love for life with all who were blessed to know her. She is survived by her daughter Joan Vivian Warnick of South Windsor, her son Thomas Aaron Warnick of Manchester, her sister Roberta A. Huey (Jim) of Killeen, TX, and her nieces Dianne Lutz (Ron) and her son Todd Bailey (Gara) and their daughter Madelyn; Nancy McCullough (David) and their children, Cory and Lauren (Jim) Durante and her son James Allen; Sally Watts (Robert) and their children, Robert, Colton and James. Linda Allen; Debbie's children, Heather and Jeremy; and nephew Robert Allen and his son, Chandler. Funeral services will be held Saturday May 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in the East Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 6-9 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester.
