Richard K. Bauer Obituary

Richard K. Bauer, of Kensington, passed into eternal rest Wednesday night (May 28, 2014) at the John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born in New Britain, he was a Kensington resident since 1980. He graduated from St. Michael's College and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as part of the Dental Corps. He was employed by the City of New Britain in the Health Department for a number of years, and was the owner and operator of the Hofbrauhaus restaurant in New Britain for many years. A member of St. Paul's Church, he also belonged to the Hartford Saengerbund and the Austrian Donau Society in New Britain, where he enjoyed celebrating his German heritage with family and friends every "Third Friday." He was an avid fan of the New York Giants, UConn Women's Basketball team, and had a passion for classic cars. Mr. Bauer is survived by his beloved wife Irene (Murawski) Bauer with whom he recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary; two devoted sons Kurt and his wife Terri Bauer, of Kensington, Dr. Richard and his wife Veronica Bauer of Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren Kurt, Kerstin, Kate, Samantha and Jack Bauer; a sister Marian Starr of Hazardville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Church, Kensington. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Farrell Funeral Home 110 Franklin Sq. New Britain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Church.
