John P. Rucci Obituary

John Peter Rucci, 88, of Enfield, formerly of the south end of Hartford, husband of Jane (Costardo) Rucci, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at The Suffield House in Suffield. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria Pasqualina (Parente) Rucci and lived in Enfield for more than 30 years. He was employed as a police officer and detective for the Hartford Police Department for 37 years retiring in 1994. John was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, served as an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Police Federal Credit Union and was a parishioner of Holy Family Church in Enfield. Besides his wife Jane, the love of his life and best friend of 68 years, John leaves his five children; Mary Anne Kelly of East Hartford, Patricia Pelletier and her husband Robert of Wethersfield, Theresa "Terry" Devito and her husband Thomas of Enfield, John Rucci and his wife Marianne of Madison and David Rucci and his wife Shari of Gig Harbor, WA; a brother, Biagio Rucci of Glastonbury; a sister, Philomena "Dolly" Raimondi and her husband Valentino "Andy" Raimondi of Hartford. John also leaves 17 cherished grandchildren and 7 loving great grandchildren as well as four special nieces. Toby, John's German shepherd and constant companion, will greatly miss him. John was predeceased by his infant son, Anthony. The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday (June 5) at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Avenue, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (June 4) from 4 to 7 pm at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield, CT 06109.
