Charles "Charlie" S. Rue, Jr., 81, of Granby, beloved husband for 60 years of Antoinette "Toni" F. (Minervini) Rue, passed away on Monday, (June 2, 2014) at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Union City, NJ on December 1, 1932, son of the late Charles and Margaret (Van Schaack) Rue, he was raised in New Jersey and had lived in Simsbury before moving to Granby in 1987. Charlie worked for many years as a packaging engineer and his work took him to the Midwest and then back to the East Coast when he and his family moved to Simsbury. While in Connecticut, he worked in packaging for Monsanto and later for Unilever Corporation (previously Chesebrough-Ponds) as Site Manager of Package Engineering until his retirement in 1990. Charlie served for 10 years in the U.S. Navy reserves until his honorable discharge after the Korean War as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling both domestically and internationally with his wife. He was also an avid stamp collector and enjoyed deep sea fishing with his sons. Charlie was never a Yankees fan but he enjoyed taking his wife and sons (who are all Yankee fans) to Yankee stadium and rooting for the visiting team. Besides his wife Toni, he leaves two sons, William Rue and his wife Diane of Simsbury and Richard Rue and his companion Kathy Wilson of Keene, NH; a sister, Eleanor Roth and her husband Richard of Texas; four grandchildren, Kathy, Laurie, Michael, Robert and Paul Sellitto, Laurie's husband; and three great grandchildren, Jaidan, Liam, and Giavanna: several nieces and nephews in New Jersey, Nevada and Texas. His family will receive friends on Sunday, June 8, 11:30am to 12:30 p.m., followed by a service of remembrances at 12:30 p.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will be private in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Public Broadcasting, Inc., 1049 Asylum Ave., Hartford, CT 06105 or by visiting, www.cpbn.org.
