Carl Edwin "Ed" Carlson, 84, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Marie (Blunda) Carlson entered into eternal peace on Saturday (May 31, 2014) with his family by his side. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on March 24, 1930, the son of the late Reverend Emil R. and Ada (Hegstrom) Carlson. Ed graduated from Deering High School in Portland, ME, class of 1947. He attended Tufts University and completed his B.S. and his M.S. degrees. Ed worked as a metallurgist for the Atomic Energy Commission before joining Pratt and Whitney Aircraft's CANEL project. Ed later worked for many years at Hamilton Standard. Ed loved music, he played the piano, and he was the organist at South United Methodist Church in Middletown for 27 years, and also sang in the church choir. Ed was very active in the East Hartford community. He was a member of the Republican Town Committee and the Historical Society, was a Justice of the Peace, and served the East Hartford Interfaith Ministry. Ed was involved with Scouting in East Hartford and is the proud father of three Eagle Scouts from Troop 69. Ed loved camping, playing bridge and doing crossword puzzles. He was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and UConn fan. He was proud of his Swedish heritage and was a member of the Scandia Lodge #23, Order of Vasa. In addition to his loving wife, Ed will be dearly missed by his sons, Josef Carlson and his wife Rev. Maria Yocum of Tolland, Peter Carlson and his wife Christine of Rocky Hill and Kenneth Carlson and his wife Christina Lynn of New Haven; his daughter, Christina Marie Condé and her husband John of Willington; his five adored grandchildren, , Jennifer, Eric, Elsabet, Millie and Daniel; his sisters, Eloise Leisk of Massachusetts and Elizabeth Henry of New York; his brothers, Dr. Elliott Carlson and his wife Ann of Massachusetts and H. Earl Carlson and his wife Helen of New Hampshire, and many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday (June 7) at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1120 Silver Lane, East Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Family and friends may visit the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Friday from 4-7 p.m. The burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
