Richard Albert Skehan Obituary

Richard "Dick" Albert Skehan, 93, a longtime resident of West Hartford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Born February 18, 1921 in Hartford, CT, he was a son to the late Theodore and Beatrice (Lewis) Skehan. He was a veteran of WWII, serving our country proudly with the U.S. Army. He was married to Charlotte E. Skehan for over 70 years until her passing on November 1, 2013. Richard was employed with the State of Connecticut DOT until his retirement in 1984 and was an active member in the Connecticut State Employees Association. He enjoyed spending time at Lord's Point on the Connecticut shore with his family and relaxing in Nettles Island, Florida in the winter. Richard was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan and in his younger years coached little league, midget football, and was Scoutmaster for Troop 32. He also enjoyed boating and woodcarving. Richard is survived by his son Rick and his wife, Linda of The Villages, Florida; grandson Rob Lowney and his wife, Michelle of West Hartford; great-grandchildren Nathan, Gracie, and Kayla Lowney; his brother Edward Skehan and his wife, Margaret of Newington; and other loving relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his daughter Rita Lowney; and brother Phillip Skehan. Calling hours for Richard will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.
