Frank W. Pokorny Sr. Obituary


Frank W. Pokorny Sr., 95 of Pokorny Road in Higganum beloved husband of 42 years to the late Ida Mary (Varhue) Pokorny died Thursday at Middlesex Health Care. Frank was born in Higganum the son of the late Frank and Agnes (Penkava) Pokorny. Prior to his retirement Frank worked as an Electrician with Standard Knapp Manufacturing in Portland. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer Fire Control Technician, serving during World War II and the Korean War. Frank loved baseball and played on local teams in the late 1930's and was an avid fan of Major League Baseball. Frank is survived by a son, Frank W. Pokorny Jr. and his wife Ann of Portland, a sister Mary Soobitsky of Middletown, a grandson, William Pokorny of East Haddam, two sister in laws, Evelyn Len of East Haddam, Bernice Mucha of Deep River, a brother in law, Walter Varhue of Middletown and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may call at Biega's from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held in Burr Cemetery, Haddam.
