Larry Alexander Obituary

Larry Alexander, 91, of Bloomfield CT, died on June 5th, 2014 after a long illness. Survived by his loving wife Ruth, his beloved children: Miriam Karacek of Houston, TX, David Alexander of Chappaqua, NY Barbara Alexander of San Diego, CA and Elizabeth Brown of Melrose Park, PA; his stepchildren Eric Fitch of Westborough, MA and Karen Voellmann of Acton, MA and his grandchildren Rachel Sonia, Jackie and Molly Alexander, Sarah Thomas and Jacob Brown, and step grandchildren Kimberly and Justin Voellmann and Ross Fitch. Born in Brooklyn, Larry survived the front lines at the Battle of the Bulge, graduated from Wesleyan University and Columbia School of Law. He raised his four children with his first wife Colleen Alexander of Philadelphia, where he was an executive in a family business before returning to the law as a Pennsylvania Assistant Attorney General, and later after marrying Ruth, served as an Appellate Court Administrative Attorney for the State of Connecticut. Larry will always be remembered by the many who loved him as a passionate sports fan who excelled in golf and tennis, an avid reader, theatre, concert and movie goer, and a lifelong advocate for social justice and peace. He was invariably kind to everyone who knew him, and we are grateful for the many tributes we have received from friends and relatives. We will always treasure the memories of his smile, his humor and his decency. Larry's wife and family extend gratitude and thanks to the staff and wonderful Resident Care Associates at The Village at Buckland Court, South Windsor, CT. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union and Wesleyan University. Friends are invited to gather at the home of David and Fran Alexander, 59 Cowdin Lane, Chappaqua, NY on June 8 from 4-8 and June 9 from 5-9. The celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Wesleyan Film Studies Center, Middletown, CT on Saturday July 19th at 2PM. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, South Windsor has been entrusted with arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
