Ian Spenser Smith Obituary

Ian Spenser Smith, born in Willimantic, died in Simsbury, made in Alaska, passed away suddenly on June 5, 2014 at his home. Born October 25, 1966; the son of Sheila M. Smith of New Hartford and the late Thomas N. Smith. Ian graduated from Northwestern Regional #7 High School as well as the University of Hartford, Hartford Art School where his father taught. His senior year, he was the Photo Editor of his class yearbook. He loved photography and enjoyed life and music attending 92 Dead shows which was an enormous source of pride for him taking his sister and parents to many shows including The Rolling Stones, The Who, CSN; the memories he helped make are countless. Ian worked in the field of photography after realizing it was not a way to make a living, Ian went back to school and started working with some local Ophthalmologists. He absolutely loved the work, the people, the interaction, the pace; was right up his ally. He took pride in his relationships with people and was an incredible friend, talented artist, a thinker but also a lover. He was a lover of life, music, politics always encouraging a debate on any topic or a chance to learn something new. Ian loved baseball, history and his family. His relationship with his nephew, Max was one he was especially proud of and he will be missed by so many people but never forgotten. Ian knew how to be a friend like no one else and anyone who knew him felt that great vibe and felt the love from his infectious affection and care. We love you so much, Ian Spenser and will miss you terribly. In addition to his mother, he leaves his "favorite" sister, Jessie Smith and his nephew and best buddy, Maxwell, both of New Hartford; his former wife and dear friend, Sandy Collins of West Hartford; his brothers in spirit, Rob, Mark, Eric, Alex and Pete; and many cousins and friends all over the country. Friends may call on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 4 - 7 PM with a sharing of stories and memories at 7PM.
