Ferdinand G. de Mello Obituary

Ferdinand G. "Fred" de Mello. Early on the morning of June 11, 2014, the angels came to escort our beloved "Papa", Ferdinand de Mello, or "Fred", as he is called by his friends, to his new heavenly home. Fred was two weeks shy of celebrating his 94th birthday. He will be remembered for his gentle manner, giving heart, and affirming actions. Fred was fiercely independent but was a humble man, immensely appreciative of the smallest acts of kindness. Fred was a devout Catholic Christian who was a living example of faith and good works. He gave freely and generously to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and care for children who had lost their parents. He will be missed by his children - Glen de Mello, Patricia Soucy, Al de Mello, and Stan de Mello and his wife Denise. Also, his loving grandchildren, Paul Soucy and his wife Bella; Michelle Scavetta; Jennifer Toscano; Mike de Mello and his wife Sarah; and Christina de Mello. His great grandchildren, Allen & Melissa Scavetta; Anthony Toscano; Andrew and Matthew Soucy, will always remember his devotion and kindness. Fred will also be fondly remembered by a community of friends at Immanuel House, his residence in retirement for 27 years. Calling hours are Monday, June 16, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Ahern Funeral Home, 180 Farmington Ave, Hartford . A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave, Hartford. Burial will be private. Attendees are encouraged to go directly to the church. To honor Fred's life, donations may be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Ave, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
