Mary L. Burris Obituary

Mary L. (Scavullo) Burris, 85, of Enfield, wife of the late Gordon Burris, died Sunday (June 22, 2014) at Parkway Pavilion, Enfield. Born in Hartford on July 28, 1928 daughter of the late James and Jenny (Rescigno) Scavullo, Mary lived in Enfield and Suffield before moving to her daughter's home in Manchester. She was awarded "Mother of the Year" award during the 1960's, for her work as a foster mother. Before retiring she was employed by Steiger's/Filene's Department Store in Enfield. Mary was a communicant of Holy Family Church in Enfield and always had a good sense of humor. She was predeceased by her son Gordon John Burris of Suffield, and leaves three children, James and Michael Burris in North Carolina and Kathleen Gina and her husband, Richard Cote in Manchester and also daughter in law, Ellen Burris of Suffield. She leaves a sister, Virginia Scavullo of South Windsor; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Sheldon, Joel, Kim Pascale, Alison Means, Michael Burris, Mindy Burris, Kyle Burris and Michael Burris; four great grandchildren, Jada Jiles, Jack and Emma Sheldon and Emmerson Means along with many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by six siblings. Family and friends may gather on Thursday June 26 at 9 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's King Street, Enfield. Her family will receive friends, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
