Maude G. Kwak Obituary


Maude G. (Goff) Kwak, 91, of South Windsor, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 peacefully at home. Born in Cornwallville, NY, daughter of the late Eugene W. Goff and Laura M. White. She was predeceased by her brothers, Reginald, Victor and Emery Goff. She leaves her loving husband of 48 years, Konyong J. Kwak, and her beloved poodle, Buddy Boy; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She received her Associates in Arts from Pfeiffer Junior College, in 1947, her Bachelor of Arts degree from McMurry College, in 1949 and her Master of Arts degree from Scarritt College for Christian Workers in 1953. She was a missionary in South Korea for the United Methodist Church in 1949 until the Korean War caused her to evacuate to Kobe, Japan, where she was a high school English teacher for three years. After the war she returned to Korea and continued her mission as the Director and social worker for the United Methodist Mission. She met her husband in Korea and married in 1966. Maude returned to Connecticut, where she worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services until retirement. She was a dedicated member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a Lay Leader and the President of the Methodist Women. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, June 27th (TONIGHT) from 4 to 7 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 10:00 a.m. at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 110 Ellington Rd., East Hartford, CT, followed by interment in Rose Hill Cemetery, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, CT.
