John Robert DaMotta Obituary


John Robert DaMotta, 54, of Simsbury, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his home. Born in Watertown, NY on October 31, 1959, son of Joseph Roger DaMotta and Jeanne M. Dube of East Granby, he was raised in East Granby and was a graduate of East Granby High School, Class of 1977. After graduation, John entered a machinist apprenticeship program at Ensign-Bickford in Simsbury. He worked for Ensign-Bickford and later for Dyno Nobel as tool maker for over 30 years. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing in the local rivers and streams and ice fishing during the winter months and golfing with his co-workers and friends. He never missed a Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots or a UCONN Basketball game. Most of all, John loved every minute he spent with his two children. Besides his parents, he leaves two children, Margaret Mary DaMotta and John Patrick DaMotta, and their mother, Mary DaMotta all of Windsor Locks; four brothers, Joseph E. DaMotta of East Granby, James M. DaMotta and his wife Tina of Honea Path, SC, Jeffrey D. DaMotta of St. Petersburg, FL, and Jeremy M. DaMotta and his wife Jorie of East Granby; four nephews, Anthony DaMotta of Honea Path, SC, William Cody Butler of Simsbury, George Storm Butler and Nobel Chance Butler both of East Granby; two nieces, Karen DaMotta of Englewood, CO and Carrolline Butler of East Granby; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 2, 5-8 p.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, July 3, 10 a.m., at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, Granby, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., at St. Bernard Church, Tariffville. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the John R. DaMotta Children's Scholarship Fund, c/o Simsbury Bank, P.O. Box 377, Granby, CT 06035.
