Ottilie R. Szotka Obituary

Ottilie R. Szotka, 93 of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Armbrook Village in Westfield, MA. On December 13, 1920 in Odessa, Ukraine, she was born the daughter of the late Otto and Elisabeth (Rueb) Roedel and shortly thereafter became an orphan, raised by her Aunt Maria. She received a University degree in Pharmacy, and after surviving the tyranny of both Stalin and Hitler, immigrated to the US in the 1950's, ultimately settling in Windsor Locks. Ottilie was united in marriage to her beloved husband of 51 years, Walter Szotka, who predeceased her in May of 2008. She was a longtime employee of both Travelers and Cigna, and in her retirement years, she was an active member of the Windsor Locks Senior Center, as well as the Windsor Locks Congregational Church for over 40 years prior to happily living in Armbrook Village. Ottilie leaves behind her loving son, Eric and his wife, Julie Fleron, of Westfield, MA; and two beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Alexandra, both of NY. Her family will receive relatives and friends at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St. on Tuesday, July 15th from 1-3 p.m. and from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be celebrated immediately following at 7 p.m. to honor her wonderful life.
