Joseph H. Bertram Obituary

Joseph Henry Bertram, age 94, of Key Largo, Florida, and Avon, Connecticut, died June 30, 2014, at his home in Florida. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita Bertram, in 2009. Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 8, 1919, he was the son of the late Flora and George Bertram of Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1937, and studied engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a registered professional engineer and a founding member of the Instrument Society of America (1945). In 1951, he started Joseph H. Bertram & Co., a manufacturer's representative for engineered products. He acted as president and CEO until the sale of the company in 1995. Prior to studying engineering, Joe was a musician playing saxophone and clarinet. He resumed playing the clarinet after his retirement, enjoying weekly sessions with some old and great musicians. Joe is survived by his children Kenneth Bertram of Port Charlotte, FL, Carol Ann Bazik of Phoenixville, PA, Dennis Bertram of Coatesville, PA, Jane Bally of Middletown, RI, and Ruth Burke of Williamsburg, VA, and their families. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth, and her husband, Chester. Joe's family wishes to express their thanks to Joe's health aide, Vicky Thomas, for her dedicated service. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. Ann in Avon, with entombment in Sycamore Mausoleum in Simsbury Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
