Elizabeth Ann Grotton Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann (Robb) Grotton, 72, beloved wife of Gerald "Jerry" Grotton for nearly 51 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2014, after a fierce battle with pulmonary fibrosis and cancer. Betty was born on March 22, 1942 in Manchester to Willard and Ann (Sacherek) Robb. She grew up there until her family moved to Mansfield Center while she was attending high school. Betty and Jerry settled in Vernon in 1964, where they raised their family. She worked in the deli department of Stop and Shop in Vernon for many years, where customers would sometimes wait a little longer until she could serve them. Betty's biggest passion was her family. She was also a great cook. Nobody could make a better apple pie or mac and cheese. She was a devoted UCONN Huskies and Red Sox fan, watching every game with Jerry. She also loved music, especially U2. She leaves behind to celebrate her life her treasured husband Jerry and her loving children, daughter Elizabeth "Beth" Werner and her husband Scott of Vernon, and sons Richard Grotton of Mansfield Center, David Grotton and his wife Danielle of Windsor, and Scott Grotton and his wife Anthea of Ellington. Her grandchildren, Jarod Werner and Stephen, Ruby, Jacob, and Elijah Grotton were the lights of her life. She dearly loved her devoted sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Storrs and her husband Butch, and Catherine Douglas and her husband James. In addition she will be missed by a special aunt, Emma Berloni, and many dear in-laws, including; Nina Chamberlain, Tony and Pat Grotton and Helen Grotton. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially Marion and Milton Brown, and her church family at Ellington Baptist Church. We will all hold our happy memories close during this difficult time. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 9, from 9-11 a.m. at Ellington Baptist Church, 264 Pinney Street, Ellington with a funeral service and burial immediately following. Memorial donations may be made to Ellington Baptist Church or to Mission to the World, P. O. Box 2589, Suwanee, GA 30024-0928, account # 17072. Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home in Vermon is caring for the arrangements. For online condolences and guest book, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com
