David P. Calnen Obituary

David Patrick Calnen, 55 of Windsor, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a recent heart surgery. David was born in Hartford on October 20, 1958, son of Kathryn "Kay" (O'Malley) Calnen of Windsor and the late Raymond G. Calnen. He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1976, and attended the University of Connecticut where he studied finance. David was the sole proprietor of David Calnen Painting Company in Windsor for many years. He was a very talkative and sociable man with an enormous heart and a terrific sense of humor. David's greatest joy in his life was being a father to his three children, Jeffrey, Andrew, and Elyse. During his leisure time, he loved being on the ocean and fishing off of the Connecticut shore. In addition to Kay Calnen, David is survived by the mother of his children Lisa (Nadeau) Hounshell, his two sons, Jeffrey D. Calnen and his fiancé Kelley Richardson of Greenwich and Andrew P. Calnen of Boston, MA; a daughter, Elyse R. Calnen of North Granby; two brothers, Ray Calnen of Lady Lakes, FL and Tom Calnen and his wife Ginny of North Granby; and a sister, Kathy Calnen and her husband Michael McKinley of Stonington. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, Ray and James Calnen of FL; Kevin, Brian, and Katie Calnen of North Granby; and Kathryn and Anna McKinley of Stonington. His family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at Carmon Funeral home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church in Windsor.
