Dorothy Ann McKay Obituary

Dorothy Ann McKay, 86 of Windsor, beloved wife to Joseph Peter McKay, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Hebrew Home in West Hartford. She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on September 1, 1927, daughter of the late Sam Weinrich and Bessie Thompson Weinrich, and was a Windsor resident for 65 years. On October 9, 1948, Dorothy married the love of her life, Joseph, at South Park Methodist Church in Hartford and shared 65 blessed years together. "Pinky" and "His Child Bride," as she was affectionately called by her husband, was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed ceramics, arts and crafts, and cake baking and decorating. She worked for the Town of Windsor Recreation Department as an Administrative Assistant for 23 years. Dorothy and Joseph were members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Windsor for many years before moving to West Hartford Brookdale Assisted Living. In addition to her husband, Dorothy leaves a daughter, Sue McKay and her fiancée Dick Gombotz and their families, grandchildren Todd and Kelly Grundmeier, Ph.D. of San Luis Obispo, CA and great-granddaughter Claire Grundmeier and Darla and Tim DiLeo of Wethersfield; a son, Lee and Barbara McKay of Windsor and their families, grandchildren Danny and Tammy McKay of Windsor and Dr. Eileen McKay and Shawn Jordon of Havertown, PA, and great-granddaughter Cassidy Jordon; a daughter, JoAnn and Larry Phelps of Windsor and their family, grandchild Joseph "Joey" Phelps of Windsor; as well as Ellen and Harry Seltzer of Middletown and their daughter Jenna Levitt of Bristol, of whom Dorothy and Joseph both considered like a daughter and granddaughter. She also leaves behind her sister, Shirley McKim of Omaha, NE and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews in Iowa. Dorothy was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014 in the chapel of Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor with burial following in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor. Friends may call on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. prior to the service.
