Gina Scussel Obituary

Gina Scussel, 101, of Stafford Springs, CT, daughter of the late John and Augusta (Segat) DeNadai, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Woodlake Health Care Center, Tolland, CT. She was born in Vittorio Veneto, Italy on March 26, 1913. She was an expert seamstress, having learned sewing and cutwork-- a form of embroidery on cut fabric used for decorating linens-- from nuns in her native Italy. She used her sewing skills in employment in area businesses, ultimately retiring from the Stafford Cleaners. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian Benefit Society and a communicant of St. Edward Church. She is survived by two daughters, Adreana Scussel and Janet Scussel of Stafford Springs, CT. She also leaves several nieces and a nephew: Phyllis Christianson of East Longmeadow, MA; Evelyn Angley of Ellington, CT; Nancy Fadel Whitman of Gettysburg, PA; Donald J. Fadel of Charlotte, NC; and Beverly DeSantis and great-niece, Linda DeSantis, both of Stafford Springs, CT. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Aldo; a brother, Peter DeNadai; and two sisters, Catherine DeNadai and Celia Fadel. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Woodlake for their fine care and the quality of life administered to Gina. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014, with a procession forming by 9 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Edward Church, 55 High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Stafford Library Association, 10 Levinthal Run, Stafford Springs, CT 06076 or Woodlake at Tolland, 26 Shenipsit Lake Rd., Tolland, CT 06082 adding the note "recreation fund" on the check.
