George A. Withee Obituary


George Withee, 78, of Enfield, loving husband of Dorothy (Sylvester) Withee entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, August 4, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. George was born August 12, 1935, in Washington, Maine the son of the late Walter and Velma (Light) Withee. George was employed as a Quality Control Engineer with Royal Typewriter and Konica Business Machines and retired in 1998 after 40 years. George was an accomplished baseball player and umpire, a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn Basketball. George enjoyed golfing, tending to his garden and crossword puzzles. He will be deeply missed and remembered as a loving and devoted family man. In addition to his wife, Dorothy to whom he was married 56 years, he is also survived by four sons, George Withee and his wife, Diane of Barkhamsted, Dwayne Withee and his wife, Martha of Enfield, Dale Withee and his wife, Sheryl of Tolland, Jeff Withee and his wife, April of Suffield; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George is also survived by three brothers, Phillip Withee and his wife, Virginia of Wiscasset, Maine, Richard Withee of Brunswick, Maine and Dennis Withee and his wife, Evelyn of Hooksett, NH and a sister, Elaine McGuire of Richmond, Maine. George was predeceased by a step father, Conrad Johnson; a brother, Paul Withee and a sister, Joyce Farr. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral service for George will be celebrated on Friday, August 8, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hazardville Cemetery.
