William P. Ryan Obituary

William Patrick Ryan, 77, of Avon, beloved husband of Patricia (Regan) Ryan, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Born in Arlington, MA, son of the late Patrick and Catherine (McNaney) Ryan, he was raised in Gloucester, MA where he graduated Gloucester High School. He completed a PG year at Bridgeton Academy, Bridgeton, ME before entering Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont. At Middlebury, he captained the football team and played on the hockey and golf teams as well. After graduation he started his career at the Mutual of NY. He then joined the Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Co in Hartford in institutional investment sales. He retired in 1992 and continued in a consulting capacity for ten more years. He was one of the founders of the Avon Canton Farmington Youth Hockey Association and a life time member of the 100 Club of CT as well as a long time member of the Golf Club of Avon. He had been an Avon resident for 50 years. Besides his wife Patricia, he leaves two sons Kevin Ryan and his wife Lynn of Canton and Terry Ryan and his wife Jenna of Avon; two grandchildren Hollis and Billy Ryan; a special nephew Kenneth Ryan and his wife Ann of Rockport, MA; and his best friend Lily, his Golden Retriever. He was predeceased by his five brothers James, Richard, Thomas, Robert, and John Ryan. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass Saturday, August 9, 2014, 10 AM directly at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either The First Tee, 425 South Legacy Trail, St. Augustine, FL 32092 or the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111.
