George David Fuerth Obituary

George David Fuerth, 92, of Manchester, left this earth for his greater reward on August 10, 2014. He leaves behind the love of his life Verna (Schaefer) Fuerth. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on February 27, 1922, the son of George C. and Carrie (Nelson) Fuerth. In addition to his wife of 67 years, George is survived by his daughters Sorine (Chris) Belz and her husband Edward and Donna Rooney and her husband Michael. His grandchildren, Scott and Lynn Belz, Matthew, Michael and Sam Rooney and great- grandchildren, Alexia, Tristan and Reagan will always remember their Pop-Pop with great love and affection. George spent the first 80 years of his life in New Jersey where he enjoyed a successful career with IBM. His heart was always at the Jersey shore where the entire family enjoyed the summer sun at Ocean Beach. His retirement years were spent golfing and traveling with his many dear friends in Lakehurst. Upon moving to Connecticut, George developed many close friendships in the Vernon and Manchester areas. He was a 32nd degree Mason and former president of the Colonial Prospect Lodge and Crescent Shrine in Little Silver, NJ. George proudly served his country during WWII as a Machinist Mate on the Coast Guard Cutter, USS Campbell. He had been an active member of the USS Campbell Association and was devoted to memorializing the ship's mascot, Sinbad, organizing the commission of the dog's statue which is proudly housed on the ship to this day. Visitation will be at Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd, (Rt 83) Vernon, CT on Wednesday, August 13th from 10am - Noon, with a Masonic Service beginning at Noon. Interment with military honors will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery, Vernon, CT.
