Josephine Warshavsky Obituary

Josephine "Jo" (Russo) Warshavsky, 82, of South Windsor, loving wife of 61 years to Sanford "Sandy" Warshavsky, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Vito and Mary (Lungo) Russo, she grew up and lived in East Hartford before moving to South Windsor 57 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Prior to her retirement, Josephine and her husband owned and operated the former South Windsor Tobacco Company. She previously owned and operated Warner Cheesecake. She was an avid New York Yankee and UConn women's basketball fan. Jo was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 133 in South Windsor. She loved baking and traveling. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Josephine is survived by her beloved son, Larry Warshavsky and his wife Laurie of East Hartford; two grandchildren, Justin and Alicia Warshavsky of East Hartford; a brother-in-law, Santo Fragilio of Portland; a sister-in-law, Emma Russo of Middletown; her best friend and companion, her dog Jeter, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was also predeceased by six sisters, Theresa Dyke, Ange Cola, Rose Disipio, Jenny Ondras, Marie Fragilio, and Carmela Vangasbeck, and a brother, Rocco Russo. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor.
