Dominic M. Mobilio Obituary

Dominic M. Mobilio of Avon, died peacefully at home surrounded by family, August 14, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Morcone, Benevento, Italy on October 16, 1929. He came to the United States in 1938 and settled in Waterbury, moving to Avon 41 years ago. A proud graduate of Fairfield University, he earned his degree in Physics in 1954. Dominic then joined the U.S. Army, and while stationed in England he met his wife, Nieves. Upon returning to the U.S. he continued his studies, receiving a B.S. in Engineering from the University of New Haven in 1965. In addition, he did graduate work at Adelphi University on Long Island. He would spend the majority of his 55-year career at both Pratt & Whitney and the Department of Defense as an aerospace engineer, working on many commercial and military aeronautical projects. He enjoyed his work and colleagues so much that he did not retire until the age of 83. He was predeceased by his parents Domenicangelo Mobilia and Consiglia (Ciarlo) Mobilia, a brother John Mobilio, and a son Dominic. He is survived by: his wife, Nieves (Carraffa) Mobilio of Avon; a son, Frank Mobilio of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Nieves Sauerbrunn, her husband, Carl and their two sons, Alex and Nicolas of Avon; and a daughter, Teresa Toomey of Exeter, N.H., her husband, John and their children, Cailyn, Patrick, Ana, and Iseabal. His family will receive friends Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 3-6 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd. Avon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon Monday, August 18, 2018 at 10AM. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery.
