Edward J. Malec, Sr., 93, of Windsor Locks loving and devoted husband of the late Bernice H. (Glista) Malec, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2014. He was born July 24, 1921, in Windsor Locks the son of the late John and Stella (Pabis) Malec. Ed was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Hawaii. He returned to his hometown with strong community pride where he conveyed the love of his heritage, beliefs and values to his family. Although a quiet person, "Cookie" stayed in close touch with many friends and family members on a daily basis. He was a very talented and creative person with many interests such as woodcarving, gardening and fishing. As an avid sports fan "Cookie" never missed either a Red Sox or UConn Women's game. He loved listening to Polish music. Ed was truly an inspiration, role model and mentor to many, wise yet humble and active until his final day. Edward is survived by his daughter, Lynda Osden of Barkhamsted; his son, Edward J. Malec, Jr. and his wife, Gloria of Windsor Locks. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Cristofer Osden of Granby and Jaclyn Osden of Windsor, Ashley and Alyssa Malec of Windsor Locks; several nieces and nephews; Edward was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Malec; his son in-law, F. Joseph Osden; a sister, Bernice Zdun and three brothers, Stanley, Victor and Theodore Malec. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks (Please meet at the church). Immediately following the Mass, Ed will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Edward may be made to Windsor Locks Public Library, 28 Main Street, Windsor Locks, CT 06096, or to the .
