Dee M. Moak Obituary

Dee M. (Driscoll) Moak, of Somers, passed away August 14, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, John R. Moak; her six children, Nancy Moak, Patricia Marks, Susan Moak, William Moak, Peter Moak and his wife Marti, and Martha Farnsworth and her husband Todd; seven grandchildren, Sarah Bryant and her husband Ben, Jeremy Marks and his wife Jessica, Rachel Marks, Callie Farnsworth, Sam Farnsworth, Joe Moak and Fiona Moak; and a great grandson, James Bryant. Dee was born on December 3, 1928 in Adrian, Michigan, daughter of Clifford and Louise Driscoll. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1950, where she met the love of her life, John. John's work took them to State College, Pennsylvania, back to East Lansing, Michigan, on to South Burlington, Vermont, and in 1964 to Somers. Dee taught in the Somers Public School System until her retirement in 1988. A firm believer in giving back to her community, Dee volunteered with the Girl Scouts, was repeatedly elected to the Somers Library Board of Directors, was an active member of the Somers Cultural Commission, Somers Village Players (both on and off stage), and the Republican Town Committee. Dee was a volunteer at Johnson Memorial Hospital since 1990. She was active in the Somers Congregational Church and its choir. Dee and John were honored with the Lions Club "Citizen of the Year Award" in 2002. She traveled the world with John, was an avid reader and gardener, and loved the game of bridge. Her family will remember sing-alongs around the campfire, how she made household chores fun, and long family dinners filled with laughter. Her grandchildren will remember her love of games, the Raggedy-Ann dolls she made them all, and her performances in their holiday plays. The family wishes to thank her caregivers at Johnson Memorial Hospital and Evergreen Health Care Center for their loving care for the last three months. A funeral service to celebrate Dee's life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Somers Congregational Church, 599 Main Street, Somers. Interment will be in Somers Congregational Church Memorial Garden. Dee's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers. Memorial donations in Dee's honor may be made to Somers Congregational Church Building Fund, PO Box 295, Somers, CT 06071-0295.
