Dorothea Wabrek Obituary

Dorothea "Dot" Wabrek, 90, beloved aunt, great-aunt and stand-in mother and grandmother to many, passed on to eternal life on August 19th, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital. Dot was pre-deceased by her parents, Michael and Anna (Chovan) Wabrek; her sister, Ida (Wabrek) Whittemore; her brother Paul Wabrek; her brother Robert Wabrek, his wife Janice and son Richard; and her brother Richard Wabrek. A lifelong resident of New Hartford, Dot was very involved with St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving on the Ladies Aid Society and the Altar Guild. Dot worked for many years at The Phoenix of Hartford Insurance Companies, where she was elected President of the Phoenix Girls' Club in 1954. Dot was inducted into the Phoenix Quarter Century Club in 1966. She went on to work at the Travelers Insurance Company and then Connecticut General Insurance Company, from which she retired from in 1986. Once retired, Dot enjoyed spending time with her grand-nieces and grand-nephews, shopping sales, and could often be seen driving around town and up to Southwick for gas. Dot also loved food and cooking, and she leaves an extensive collection of recipes to be envied. Dot's memory will live on with the many who loved her; her nephew Jim Whittemore and his daughter Lauren (Whittemore) O'Brien and her husband Peter and their children Drew and Ethan, his daughter Kelsey Whittemore, his son John Williams and his wife Sheila and their children John, Mark and Jace; niece Judi (Whittemore) McCabe and her son Patrick McCabe; niece Joanne (Wabrek) Myers and her husband Ken; nephew Eric Wabrek and his wife Maureen and their children Eric Jr., Matthew, Mark and Danielle; nephew Michael Wabrek and his wife Mary and their children Tatiana, Katarina and Jacob; nephew Paul Wabrek, his wife Donna and their children Mia and James; She is also survived by her sister-in-law Priscilla Wabrek, spouse of Paul; and sister-in-law Linda Wabrek, spouse of Richard. Dot will also be very fondly remembered by her St. Paul's family and community. Calling hours will be held at the Montano-Shea Funeral Home in New Hartford on Wednesday, August 27th from 6-8pm, and funeral services will be held at 1pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 28th. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery in New Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Prospect Street, New Hartford, CT 06057.
