Dorothy (Kivney) Scott, 89, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on August 30, 2014 at Jefferson House in Newington. She was the beloved wife for 35 years of the late John Glennon "Glenn" Scott until his passing in 1985. Born in Hartford on November 1, 1924 to the late John "Jack" Kivney, former Hartford police captain, and Bertha (Edwards) Kivney, Dorothy attended Hartford schools and graduated from Bulkeley High School, class of 1942. Dorothy was employed at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company until the birth of her first child. She resided in Wethersfield for 56 years and raised her family of five children there. Dorothy was a member first of Corpus Christi Church followed by her membership with Incarnation Church when this parish was established closer to her home. She was a member of the Women's Club in both churches. While a member of Corpus Christi, Dorothy joined the Women's Bowling League along with many neighborhood friends. During her participation in the league Dorothy achieved numerous awards, while at the same time having a great deal of fun, including trophies for high single, high average, league championships and repeated captain of her team. Dorothy maintained lifelong friendships from high school as well as longstanding friendships throughout her Wethersfield years. Dorothy supported the family business, Scott Tile, for numerous years on a daily basis in the home office. As her children grew, Dorothy volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for several years. In later years she was an active member of Wethersfield Seniors and enjoyed many a bingo game and numerous trips with friends. Throughout her life's joys and struggles, Dorothy's faith was constant and sustained her. She is survived by her devoted children, John Scott and his wife Christina, and Patricia Paradee and her husband Brian, all of Wethersfield, William Scott of Manchester, Geoffrey Scott and his wife Lorna of Middlefield, and Laurie McCauley and her husband Michael "Mac" of Manchester. Dorothy is also survived by her beloved grandchildren of whom she took great pride and pleasure, Jennifer (Paradee) Bennett and her husband David, Sarah (Paradee) McGray and her husband Lance, Heather (Paradee) Haak and her husband Andrew, Shannon Scott, Jennifer Scott, and Elizabeth Given. Dorothy was able to meet and hold her precious great grandson, Parker McGray, which gave her great joy. Dorothy also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and a cousin, Doris Boyle. Besides her husband and parents, Dorothy is predeceased by her brother, John "Jack" Kivney, Jr. and her sister-in-law Mary, her brothers and sisters in law, William and Ruth Scott, Edward and Jeanette Scott, and Donald and Joan Scott Slattery. She is also predeceased by her cousin, Marian McGuire, who was more like a sister to her. Heartfelt thanks and recognition go to the staff at Jefferson House who have cared for our mother in the most supportive, compassionate, and professional manner for the past three years. Special thanks go to the VNA Hospice who have recently been a wonderful support for our mother and family.
