Donald Pogue Obituary
Donald Carl Pogue of Guilford, CT, died peacefully in his sleep on October 26, 2016. Born May 24, 1947 in Macomb, Illinois, he graduated from Dartmouth College in 1969 and Yale Law School in 1973. He worked as a labor lawyer in Connecticut and proudly represented labor unions for many years before serving as the Connecticut Commissioner of Hospitals and Healthcare and then as a Judge in the CT Superior Court. In 1995 he was appointed as a Judge for the US Court of International Trade where he served as Chief Judge from 2010-2014 and assumed senior status in 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife Susan E. Pogue (Bucknell); daughters Tamara Drangstveit and her husband Russell Drangstveit, and Tregony Simoneau and her husband Brian Simoneau; grandchildren Amelia, Aila, Harper, Graham, Anja and Phoebe; sister Doris Larson and her husband Lars Larson; and step-mother Joyce Pogue. An avid hiker who enjoyed skiing and sailing, Don will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his dedication to justice, and his commitment to family and community. He will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3rd at 11:00am at The Christ Episcopal Church in Guilford, CT. Burial will be private. Friends may call to the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford on Wednesday, November 2nd from 5 - 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405, or The Christ Church Memorial Fund, 11 Park Street, Guilford, CT 06437. We were friends back in his Dartmouth and law school days, and admired his intellect and forceful personality then, and as we heard of his career over the years. During those times, I was taken with his infectious sense of humor, incisive intellect and deep compassion for the human condition. I also marveled at the strong symbiosis which was so evident in your partnership.

Dear Sue, Tamara and Tregony, I am shocked and saddened to hear of Don's sudden death. My daughter, Lucy Georgeff, and I recall Don and your family very well from our Babysitting Co-op days in Hartford. Don was such a fine man, and his intelligence and big heart will stand out in our memories forever. Ron surely has welcomed Don to heaven. Our hearts go out to all of you in your loss.
