Franciszek Guziewicz Obituary
Franciszek Jozef Guziewicz, 74, of West Hartford, beloved husband for 46 years of Jadwiga (Plawski) Guziewicz, died on Wednesday, (June 18, 2003) at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Kostopol, Poland, son of the late Jozef and Leokadia (Zareba) Guziewicz, he had lived in West Hartford for the last 50 years. As a child, Franciszek's parents took him to Siberia at the outbreak of World War II. He then moved to Persia and, at the conclusion of the war, moved to India, England and then to the United States in 1952. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a communicant of SS Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford. A design engineer in heating, ventilation and air conditioning, he worked at Fred S. Dubin Engineers, James S. Minges Engineers for 20 years, Savage Engineers, and retired from Burton Van Houton Engineers, Bloomfield, in 1995. Franciszek was a member of the Polonia Polish Choir and the Rysy Ski Club, both in New Britain. He loved tennis, skiing, swimming, soccer, skating, sailing and playing ping pong; and always enjoyed having a "Lemoniadka" after tennis and skiing. Franciszek was a great father, a very proper and strict man, and a perfectionist. He embraced his "by the book" European upbringing by living by his strong values and only speaking polish in his home. Besides sports, he also enjoyed vacations, camping with his family and working on his A-Frame house in Danby, VT. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Jerzy Guziewicz and his wife Alina of Berlin, and Roman Guziewicz and his wife Elizabeth of Glastonbury; a daughter, Alicja Milardo and her husband Donald of Meriden; five grandchildren, Grzegorz, Monika, Asia, Olivia and Sophia; a brother, Wladyslaw Guziewicz of New Britain; two sisters, Kazia Ostromecka and her husband Janusz of Berlin, and Jadwiga Galon of New Britain; and his beloved German Shepherd, Agata. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Dale Rossano; a brother, Czeslaw Guziewicz; and a sister, Hela Olesiak. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 9:15 a.m., at South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Avenue, Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at SS Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford.
