Lawrence Joseph Cianciolo

Obituary Condolences

CIANCIOLO, Lawrence Joseph Lawrence Joseph Cianciolo, 65, attorney and certified public accountant, of New Hartford and Peru, Vermont, died unexpectedly in Morzine, France on Sunday, (February 1, 2009) after a joyful day of skiing. He was born in New Haven on September 16, 1943, to Mary (Fainelli) Cianciolo and the late Dr. Lawrence Cianciolo. He was a graduate of Torrington High School, attended Cornell University, and graduated from the University of Connecticut. He proudly served as an officer and company commander in the United States Army before becoming a management analyst for the CT State Department of Labor. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hartford, where he was a graduate assistant for Dr. John Lazar, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar and the Federal Bar. Larry became a Certified Public Accountant while working at the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, and Mitchell in Hartford before moving to Grolier, Inc., in Danbury as Assistant Treasurer, Tax and then Vice President, Tax. He was a member of the Connecticut Society of Public Accountants; the American, Connecticut, and the Hartford County Bar Associations; the Connecticut Bar Foundation; and of CATIC. He especially enjoyed his recent position on the Board of Directors of OmegaFlex, Inc. Larry is survived by his mother, of Litchfield; his beloved wife of 37 years, Mary (Dranginis) Cianciolo of New Hartford; his cherished brother, Vincent and his wife, Marcia of Harwinton; his sister-in-law, the Honorable Anne C. Dranginis and her husband, William P. Jacobs, of Litchfield; and his nieces, Melissa and Molly Cianciolo and Charlotte and Sarah Zivic. He was a loving and supportive uncle. He is also survived by a treasured family of aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family and friends will miss his warmth, his compassion, and his ability, in the midst of his hard work, to enjoy life, to travel, and to savor fine wine and snow covered slopes. His family and friends were most important to him, so his sudden departure from our lives has created an emptiness which will not be filled. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South St., Litchfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Relatives and friends attending the funeral services are asked to meet directly at St. Anthony Church. Burial will follow in St. Francis New Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 9, from 4-8 p.m. at The LaPorta-Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.
