CZAPLA, John Francis, Sr. John Francis Czapla, Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of Hartford, loving husband of the late Felicia "Fay" (Cybulski) Czapla, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, (September 15, 2009) at Hartford Hospital. He was born June 23, 1918 in Hartford and was the son of the late Anthony and Christina (Buczko) Czapla. He was a proud World War II, U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company for over 40 years, retiring several years ago. John was a longtime faithful communicant of SS. Cyril & Methodious Church in Hartford. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Bingo". He is survived by his son, John Francis "Jack" Czapla, Jr. of Pompano Beach, FL and his daughter, Beverly Hawkins and her husband, James of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, James Hawkins, Jr. and his wife, Maria of Manchester, NH, Heather Hawkins of Chicago, IL and a great grandson, Cameron. He also leaves behind his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beatrice Czapla of Newington and Lillian Czapla of Wethersfield, Alice Waskiewicz of Hadley, MA, Frances Cialek of Hatfield, MA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters. Funeral service will be Monday, September 21 at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. The burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill with full military honors.
