Obituary Condolences

MCCANN, William "Bill" T. William "Bill" T. McCann, 56, of South Glastonbury, loving husband of Roxanne (Donofrio) McCann, peacefully passed away surrounded by his entire caring family on Thursday, (September 17, 2009) at Hartford Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hartford on December 11, 1952, a son of the late William James and Marie Anne (Blaney) McCann, he had resided in East Hartford for many years prior to moving to Bolton and then South Glastonbury 16 years ago. Bill was a graduate of George J. Penney High School in East Hartford-Class of 1971 where he was a member of the varsity football team. Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam Era. He later earned his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Southern Connecticut State College in 1976 and his Master's degree from University of Connecticut. Prior to his retirement this past February, Bill was employed as a Physical Education teacher for over 32 years by the Manchester Board of Education, teaching primarily at Bennett Junior High School and Illing Middle School. Bill was a talented carpenter who built several houses, including his own homes he had in Bolton, NH, and presently South Glastonbury. Bill was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed golfing, boating, skiing, basketball, and softball. Along with his beloved wife, Roxanne, of 33 years, Bill is survived by a daughter, Lindsay Marie McCann of South Glastonbury; a son, Ryan William McCann of South Glastonbury; two sisters, Judith M. Zimmerman and Linda A. Belanger both of East Hartford; a brother, Brian J. McCann of East Hartford; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Patricia (Miceli) Donofrio of East Hartford; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Bronson and her husband, Mike, of Glastonbury; three brothers-in-law, Rick Donofrio and his wife, Diane, of Glastonbury, Tom Donofrio of Windsor Locks, Dan Donofrio and his wife, Jody, of Glastonbury; his special dog, Sookie; several nieces, nephews, and special dear friends. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 23, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dunstan Church, 1345 Manchester Road, Glastonbury. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Wednesday morning. Bill's family will receive friends and co-workers on Tuesday, September 22, 4-7 p.m. at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be made to The Jimmy V. Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513.
