Obituary Condolences

MATASSA   Anthony J. "Tony" Matassa, 77, of West Hartford, beloved husband for 53 years of Ann. T. (Morello) Matassa, died Monday, (August 25, 2003) at Hartford Hospital. He was born December 31, 1925 in Hartford and was the son of the late Domenic and Mary (Lorello) Matassa. He co-owned and operated Cardinal Printing in Middletown for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. Tony played bass fiddle with the former Bel-Aires Band for over forty years. He loved music, dancing, traveling and was an avid golfer. Most importantly he loved his family and friends. He lived in West Hartford for over 40 years and was a member of the Holy Family Monastery, West Hartford and a long time communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Church, West Hartford. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Suzanne M. Matassa of West Hartford and Lisa McKeown and her husband, Robert of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Brett Joseph McKeown of New Britain and Elizabeth Ann McKeown of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Grace M. Abbate of Wethersfield and Anne V. Tavani and her husband, Anthony of Rocky Hill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary M. Hedges and her husband, William of West Hartford, Katherine Conforto and her husband, Samuel of Cromwell and Joseph Morello and his wife, Harriet of West Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Benedict J. Matassa and a brother-in-law, Joseph Abbate. A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Hartford Hospital for all the care and compassion shown to Tony and his family. Funeral service will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, West Hartford. The burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, Meriden, CT 06450-1004 or the St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford, CT.
