Obituary Condolences

CHRISTMAN III, Peter Charles Peter Charles Christman, III, 85, of Avon, passed away peacefully on Sunday (February 21, 2010) at his home surrounded by those who loved him dearly. He leaves behind a loving wife Vivian; a younger sister Dorothy; a son Peter IV and his wife Jay; a daughter Barbara; and grandchildren, Peter C. Christman V, Carson Christman, Gabrielle Squire Christman, Eliza Tate Christman, Michael Peter Malinosky and Peter Malinosky. Peter, born in Toronto, Canada moved around quite a lot in his youth and eventually he and his family planted roots in Brooklyn, New York. He entered the Navy during World War II and was commissioned as a Lieutenant JG. He sailed aboard the USS Leo and participated in the Pacific theater including the battle at Iwo Jima. After the war, he went to school at night eventually earning a BS in Engineering from the University of Hartford. The majority of his professional career was spent in the power industry. He cut his teeth with General Electric Co. and Turbo Power & Marine (TP&M), a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, before he and his devoted business partner and friend Jack Haeflich started Energy Services, Inc. in 1974 and Energy Maintenance Corp. in 1977. The two businesses grew and prospered through the years and were eventually sold to United Technologies Corp. in 2001 at which time Peter retired. "Pete and Jack", as they were/are commonly referred to as, have had considerable impact on the land-based gas turbine market and to those who have had the tremendous opportunity to both work with and for them. Pete's presence and counsel will be missed. The family will hold calling hours TODAY, from 4 – 6 p.m. at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 25 at 1 p.m. at the First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford followed by a Burial with military honors, at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Following the burial, friends and family are invited to the Simsbury home of Peter Charles Christman, IV to celebrate and share the many memories and experiences of the life of Peter Charles Christman, III, a man we will miss but honor by our actions going forward.
