Obituary Condolences

THOMPSON, Eleanor (Roberson) Mrs. Eleanor Thompson of Orleans, MA, age 84, died Monday morning at Cape Cod Hospital. She passed away quietly in the presence of family and friends. She is the wife of the late Rev. Garfield Thompson. Mrs. Thompson was a former Windsor, CT, resident until she retired with her late husband to Massachusetts in 1989. At the time of her death she was involved in several activities at the Community of Jesus in Orleans. Mrs. Thompson was born in Santa Clara, CA , moved with her family to Coalinga, CA, when she was 10. While attending the University of CA at Berkley, her education was interrupted to go home and attend her mother with cancer while caring for her little sister who remembers this time with much love and thanks. Eleanor later went on to earn her Master's in Christian Education from the New York Biblical Seminary, where she graduated in 1951 and met her husband Garfield. While in Windsor, she served for many years as an adult Sunday school teacher, nursery school teacher and couples counselor with her husband. Along with her husband she served in the ministry as well. Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sons, Richard D. Thompson of Oakland, CA, Robert N. Thompson of Greenland NH; two daughters, Barbara Nelson of Bradington, FL, and Karen Schumacher of N. Caldwell, NJ; younger sister, Joan Barram of Paradise, CA; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 11, from 4-7 p.m. at the Zion Building at the Community of Jesus with a funeral service Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Transfiguration at the Community.
