Leonard S. ZALESKI Obituary
ZALESKI, Leonard S. Leonard S. Zaleski, 84, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Helena A. Zaleski died Wednesday, (June 9, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Born in Windsor, son of the late Stanley and Josephine (Duda) Zaleski, he was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, Storrs and had lived in West Hartford over 20 years. He had served in the U.S. Marines Corps. and was retired from the U.S. Army as a Major. During the Korean War, Major Zaleski's tour of duty was with Military Intelligence and he was the Replacement Commander for Pork Chop Hill. He was past president of the Charter Oak Reserve Officers Association, a member of the American Legion, #96, West Hartford and the VFW, Hannon-Hatch, Post 9929, West Hartford. Leonard was a communicant of St. Brigid Church, West Hartford where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister. He taught CCD and was a member of the church's choir. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Kevin Berkincamp of Marietta, Georgia; a son and daughter-in-law Leonard F. and Donna Zaleski of Farmington; two nieces, Barbara Novak of Arizona and Joanne Novak of New Jersey; a nephew, William Novak of Colorado; a step-daughter, Bernice Andersen and her husband Robert of North Carolina; two grandsons, Matthew Sweetman, Mitchell Zaleski and two step-grandchildren, Susanne Farrah and Michael Carpentiri. Funeral procession will be Today, 9:15 a.m. from Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial with Military Honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
