Sabina HERNANDEZ Obituary
HERNANDEZ, Sabina Sabina Hernandez, 77 of South Windsor, ended a courageous two and a half year battle with lung cancer on Tuesday (August 3, 2010) at South Windsor Rehabilitation Center, her loving family by her side. Sabina was born on February 13, 1933 in Havana, Cuba to the late Ezequiel and Alodia Hernandez. She attended the University of Havana in Cuba and received her master's degree in architecture in 1961. After ten years of living under a communist regime, Sabina was finally released and able to join her daughter and other family members in the USA. Sabina lived with her daughter and dedicated most of the past twenty years to helping her daughter and caring for her grandchildren. She was very creative and enjoyed painting in her free time. Many of Sabina's paintings decorate the walls of her daughter's home. She was a loving mother to Diana McNeil and her husband Glenn of South Windsor, a doting 'abuelita' to her two adored grandchildren Gillian Kara and Aleck McNeil, and a special sister to Benito Hernandez and his wife Dora of Hartford. She also leaves three special nephews, Benny Hernandez of Windsor, Alex Hernandez of South Windsor, and Luis Hernandez of Hartford and their families. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 7th at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road in South Windsor with interment following at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, August 6th at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor, CT 06074.
