MACDONALD, Betty Blakeway Betty Blakeway MacDonald passed away peacefully on Sunday (August 8, 2010) surrounded by her loving family in Cape Coral, FL at the age of 81, after courage battle with lung cancer. Born in Axtell, KS on July 3, 1929, Betty grew up and graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Business Administration. While attending Kansas State, she met and married William M. MacDonald. After graduation, they moved to Bloomfield where Bill practiced Veterinary Medicine and Betty worked as the Bookkeeper for the practice. She was active in the Alter Guild at Bethany Lutheran Church, the Bloomfield PTA and was recognized for her volunteer work at the Watkinson School. After 37 years in Bloomfield, Bill and Betty retired to Cape Coral, FL in 1990, where she became a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, participating in the Altar Guild and the Sewing Quilters groups. She was also a member of the Connecticut Club, Treasurer of the Cornwallis Parkway Association, and actively participated in the Hunter's Run Executive Women's Golf Association. Betty had a love for tennis, bowling, golfing, playing cards and Dominos. She was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 51 years in December of 2000. She is survived by her three children, her daughter, Debra Burnham of South Windsor and her four children, Robert, James, Holly and Scott; her son, Richard MacDonald and wife Morag of Bloomfield and their two children, Kyle and Kaitlin; and son Wm. Drew MacDonald and wife Wendy of Simsbury and their two children Wm. Brent and Nicholas. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Friday (August 13, 2010) from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated Saturday (August 14, 2010) 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family would like to thank Hope Hospice of Cape Coral, FL for their exceptional support and care.
