James Aloysius Stover

Obituary Condolences

James Aloysius Stover, 7, beloved son and brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend died Sunday, (October 12, 2003) on Block Island, a place he loved. He brought us tremendous joy. James had a deep and comforting warmth and sensitivity, which he shared freely with his family and friends. Memories of his compassion and wonderful smile will help sustain those who love him. James was an extraordinary boy. He loved to explore, and was probably happiest when he was wading in water, fresh or salt, catching fish and frogs, turtles and snakes. He was a gift to his parents, a brother who loved his sisters immensely, and a source of a smile to everyone who knew him. James is survived by his parents, Keith and Susan (Anderson) Stover; by his sisters, St. Clair, Mae and Margaret; his maternal grandparents, Elizabeth Woodard of Farmington and Todd Anderson and his wife, Veronica of Litchfield; by his paternal grandparents, John and Marie Stover of Newington; by his maternal great grandmother, Mary Kate Bromfield of Simsbury; by his aunts, Krista Reinhart of Burlington, VT and Katie Simoneit of Glen Ellyn, IL, her husband, Jamie, and their children, Elizabeth, Daniel and William. James is also survived by two uncles, Todd Anderson, Jr. of Los Angeles and Scott Anderson of Jackson, WY. We extend our profound thanks to our family, friends and colleagues who have been with us from the moment this tragedy occurred, including all of our good and close friends in Simsbury; the faculty and staff of Tootin' Hills Elementary School, who bring great gifts to our children every day; and our friends at the First Church of Christ, Simsbury. In addition, we would like to express our tremendous gratitude to the community in our second home, Block Island, most especially the Block Island Rescue Squad and Block Island Police Department. Calling hours will be held Friday, October 17, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 18, at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully suggest that those inclined to memorialize please consider a contribution in his honor to Covenant to Care, 120 Mountain Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or to the Block Island Rescue Squad's Building Fund, P.O. Box 214, Block Island, RI 02807.
