Nancy J. SHEEHAN Obituary
SHEEHAN, Nancy J. Nancy J. Sheehan, 73, of West Hartford, beloved wife of David J. Sheehan, Jr. passed away on Friday, (February 4, 2011). Nancy graduated from Mt Holyoke College and earned her Master's Degree from the University of Hartford. She worked for many years in the West Hartford Public School system, first as a teacher of Science and Math at Sedgwick Junior High and then as a Guidance Counselor at Sedgwick Junior High and Conard High School. After staying at home to raise her daughters, Nancy worked as an Administrative Assistant at CT Valley Girl Scout Council for many years. Nancy was involved in many volunteer organizations throughout her life; she was the West Hartford Town Girl Scout Cookie Chairperson, a member of the Hartford Veterans Day Parade planning committee, past President of the Whiting Lane School and St. Thomas the Apostle School PTO's, past library volunteer at Whiting Lane School and served on Hall High School's scholarship committee. She was also a member of the West Hartford Bridge, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a certified instructor for the American Red Cross in First Aid and CPR and had volunteered at St. Francis Hospital in the Emergency Room for many years. Her greatest passion besides her family was Girl Scouts; she had been a troop leader to hundreds of girls during the last 35 years. She was a past leader of Brownies and Juniors at Whiting Lane School, Juniors and Cadettes at St. Thomas the Apostle School and was currently a leader to Cadettes and Seniors from West Hartford, Bloomfield, Hartford and Windsor. She spent many summers volunteering at Camp Timber Trails in Tolland, MA and Merriwood Day Camp in Manchester. She was instrumental in starting "Frosty Fun" so that Brownies could experience Timber Trails for the first time. Nancy went camping with her Girl Scouts every chance she could, including overseas trips. Her most recent adventure was this summer which was spent celebrating 100 years of Girl Guiding in England. Other destinations have included Iceland, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. She also served as International Staff in Bermuda, Norway and Austria. She has helped many girls make memories for a lifetime. In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Meg Sheehan of West Hartford and Patti Albee and her husband Scott of West Hartford and her four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Bryan, Justin and Kylie Albee all of West Hartford. She also leaves many special people behind; Kaye Riddle of Enfield and Julia Marshall and her partner Tim Zielonko of England and all the girls of Troops 10438 and 10485. Calling hours will be Tuesday, (February 8) from 4-7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave, West Hartford and funeral services will be on Wednesday, (February 9) at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Ave, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
