HAYES, John Francis Patrick John Francis Patrick Hayes, 73, of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Patricia (Quish) Hayes passed away Wednesday, (February 16, 2011) at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford. He was born and raised in Hartford, son of the late William F. and Louise (Pouech) Hayes and was a graduate of Weaver High School, Class of 1956. John was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service. In his retirement years, John became an avid wood carver and was a member of the Mystic Wood Carvers and spent many hours as a volunteer working at the Mt. Sinai Rehabilitation Center, Hartford. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Sean W. and Michelle Hayes of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; two daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen H. and Kevin J. Pendagast of Shelton and Erin L. and Larry Hermann of Haddam; seven grandchildren, Raymond and Kelsey Pendagast, Benjamin, Aric and Carla Hayes and Lindsey and Kyle Hermann; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Daniel and Kathy Hayes of Simsbury and Stella Hayes in Florida. Besides his wife, Pat, he was predeceased by two grandchildren, Nora Grace and Naomi Rose Hayes and a brother, William Hayes. The funeral will be TODAY at 9:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Church of Saint Brigid. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Donations in memory of John may be made to Saint Francis hospital Cardiac Care Unit, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105-9720.
