Obituary Condolences

BREY, Mary C. Mary C. Brey, 80, of East Hartford, wife of the late Orval E. Brey, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on April 12, 2011. She was born on September 3, 1930 daughter of the late Martin and Mary Conroy. Mary was a graduate of Buckley High Class of 1948. She retired from the state of CT Department of Corrections in 1991. Mary loved to attend bingo, donating to the Mohegan tribe and later in life enjoyed working alongside all her favorite TV characters solving many murder mysteries and associated crimes. Mary leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Brey) and David Matterazzo of East Hartford; three sons and daughters-in-law, George M. and Cathy Brey of Coventry, Edward M. and Lisa Brey of East Hartford with whom she made her home, Thomas M. and Sandy Brey of Cary, NC; and 11 grandchildren, Serena and her husband Erick Ray, Thomas, Christina and Michelle Brey of Coventry, Jeffrey Brey of Vernon, James Brey of East Hartford, Kelly and her husband Taylor Bannon of East Hartford, Amy and Anna Brey of Cary, NC; Michael Matterazzo of Glastonbury, Lisa Matterazzo of East Hartford and one great-granddaughter Brooke Brey of Coventry and another great-granddaughter due this summer. She also leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Barbara Conroy of South Windsor. She was predeceased by a brother, Martin Conroy and sister, Kathryn Moreau. Mary also leaves behind her long-term care giver Grace Bilson. Grace was a companion and friend to Mary. A special thanks goes to Hospice of East Hartford for the great care and compassion they provided to our entire family. Mary's funeral service will be Friday (April 15, 2011) at 10:30 a.m. at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. Interment to follow immediately in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford, Veteran's Section. Friends and family may call from 8:30-10:30 a.m, that morning prior to the funeral service.
