SURANNA, Joseph A.
Joseph A. Suranna, 70, of Newington passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (July 12, 2011) at home. Born on June 3, 1941 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anne (Bazzano) Suranna. Joe served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He worked in banking, insurance and operated the Prospect Café for 13 years. He was also a member of the Hartford Elks Club, Lodge # 19, the First Company Governor's Foot Guard and the Officers' Club of Connecticut. He is survived by two sons, Christopher D. Suranna and his partner, Andrew Love of Washington, D.C. and Keith J. Suranna and his wife, Valentina Kloosterman of Miramar, FL. He leaves two cherished grandsons, Mateo and Diego Suranna; a sister, Judith-Ann Giansanti of South Windsor and several nieces and nephews, as well as a special great-nephew, Anthony. He is also survived by the mother of his sons, Janette Suranna of Venice, FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 626 Willard Ave., Newington. Everyone is asked to go directly to church. Burial will be private.
