Erle E. JOHNSTON

Obituary Condolences

JOHNSTON, Erle E.
Erle E. Johnston 83, of Englewood, FL, formerly of South Glastonbury, passed away Monday, (August 29, 2011). Born Oct. 25, 1927, in Saugerties, NY, Erle grew up at a time when houses were heated with wood, attended school in a one room schoolhouse and graduated at the head of his class at 15 years old. Erle served in the U.S. Army during World War II, later earning a degree in accounting, but his love for automobiles and known mechanical skills employed him instead. He was the founder Erle's Automotive Service in Hartford, a manager for NAPA, and an owner operator semi driver until his retirement 22 years ago. Erle was a friend to all and will always be remembered for his constant good cheer, even in the face of terminal cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen of Englewood, FL; children Bruce (Margaret) Johnston of West Granby, CT, Ernest (Laura) Johnston of Hebron, CT, Susan Johnston of Hartford, CT, and Jenny (Curtis) Waldee of Port Charlotte; a sister, Betty Ferracane of West Camp, NY and his five cherished grandchildren, James, David, Melissa, Rebecca and Taegan. Erle was preceded in death by his brother, Ted.
At Erle's request there will be no formal services and burial will be private.
