deGROFF, Ruth
On January 15, 2012 Ruth deGroff passed over peacefully, surrounded by her remaining family at the age of 92. Survived by her children, son William and daughter Adriance, Ruth is also survived by many other loving relatives & friends, including her much loved cat Cleo. She was the beloved wife of the late Harrold de Groff, a West Hartford Interior Designer. She was a very accomplished woman who was known for not only her intelligence, but also her spirituality. She had received a Masters degree in Anthropology from Barnard College and later taught at Central Connecticut University. She was also a very accomplished artist and designed jewelry for Saks Fifth Avenue and Tiffany's after college. She was also a painter, and did design work with her husband for numerous clients and friends. She was the main force behind the designing of the 1976 Farmington Bicentennial Quilt in the Farmington Library as well as the 1986 Commemorative Wall Hanging at the UCONN Medical Center. A member of the Farmington Garden Club and her love of flowers led her to the making of dried flower arrangements, and later to heading up the Flower Committee at The Mc Auley where they resided for their last years, where she was fondly called "the flower lady". She was also member of The Thursday Club, and was an intellectually stimulating woman to speak with about all things both physical and metaphysical. She was a very early practitioner of Transcendental Meditation and meditated regularly.

Dear Adriance,
We met on several occasions in your mother's apartment at the McAuley. My mother, Joan Clarke, was one of her flower ladies, and for a good year and a half so was I. Both my mother and I thoroughly enjoyed your mother... and your father.
When my mother moved into the McAuley, she invited your father to entertain his eye on the way she had arranged her apartment, from the display of her paintings to her furnishings. I happened to be there at the same time. The sharing of their opinions was also equally entertaining, as I'm sure you can imagine.
My mother had a stroke and was in St Mary's when your father died and I went to see your mother. It was at that time that Ruth and I discovered a commonality on a lot of issues, Energy Work, being one of them. I hooked my mom up with your mom's 'Energy Worker and have since shared her with others.
For the last year of my mother's life (she died last January), we saw your mother at our bi-weekly flower pick-ups and my mother would be refreshed by her opportunity to chat with your mom, pat Cleo, and then to return to her room with the exciting task of creating an arrangement 2nd only to your mothers fine work!
Thanks for sharing your mother with us. Sincerely, Juliet Clarke

Dear Will and Adriance,
We met your parents only briefly when we bought their home in Bristol. We found both your mom and dad to be absolutely delightful people. They are still remembered by many who live in our condo community with high regard and with great fondness.
I like to think they are now both back together again.
Best wishes---Barbara Hubbs
