Obituary Condolences Gallery

SLATUS, Theodore "Teddy" Theodore Paul "Teddy" Slatus, 60, of the historic Hayward House on the Colchester Green, widower of the late Betty Ann Johnston-Slatus, whom predeceased him on July 11, 2005, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (November 3, 2005) at home. Born Aug. 9, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late William and Bella (Hershkowitz) Slatus. He grew up in New York City and in his early 20's, he became Performance Manager for musician Johnny Winter in 1966, a post he held until earlier this year. Over the years, along with his beloved wife Betty Ann, he worked with numerous other performers through his business, Slatus Management. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and animals, especially walking his dogs around Colchester with his friends. Survivors include two brothers-in-law and their spouses, John and Deborah Johnston of Alabama and Brian and Mindy Johnston of Hebron, and a host of friends. Friends may call Wednesday morning starting at 10 a.m. at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A Chapel Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rabbi Kenneth Alter, officiating. Interment will follow in the New St. Andrew Cemetery, Colchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Colchester-Hayward Vol. Fire Dept., 18-54 Old Hartford Road, Colchester 06415, in recognition of their professionalism and caring, or to Helping Paws, 8 Pine Road, Colchester 06415, in keeping with his love of animals.
