GODART, James John
James John Godart, 91, of Rocky Hill, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at his home after a short illness. James was born July 1, 1920, son of the late John and Mary (Meyer) Godart of Chicago, IL. James was predeceased by his wife, Elinor (Repass) Godart (February 3, 2006) and his son, Richard Godart (May 12, 2006). James lived in Rocky Hill for the past 58 years where he was a communicant at St. James Church. He leaves his son, Michael Godart of Wethersfield and daughter-in-law Margie Godart of Vacaville, CA. Six granddaughters, Kristin and Dave Rapoza of Georgetown, MA, Amy and Derek Harkins of Brockton, MA, Casey Pien and Amanda Godart of CA, and Megan and Marie Godart of Wethersfield, along with five great-grandchildren. James also leaves his sisters Rosemarie Martinez, Jeanne Beck and LaVerne Westfall and many friends, nieces, and nephews. James was formerly employed by Northeast Utilities of Berlin for twenty years, U.S. Envelope in Hartford for twenty years, and Hart Manufacturing for eight years. He was a supernumerary police officer with the Rocky Hill Police Department for over twenty years. He served in the Merchant Marines, was a member of the American Legion Post 123 in Rocky Hill, a member of the 122nd Field Artillery - National Guard and former president of local 466 United Paper Workers at U.S. Envelope in Hartford, CT. He was a kind and softhearted man who enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church in Wethersfield. A private burial with military honors will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 4-7pm at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Rocky Hill Senior Center.
