Richard Michael "Dick" Cavanaugh, 80, of Wethersfield, husband of Rose (Parente) Cavanaugh, died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Patrick and Lillian (Doran) Cavanaugh and lived in Wethersfield for the past 54 years. He was employed as a programmer at The Hartford Insurance Group for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Benevelolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge # 19 in Hartford as well as the VFW Hannon - Hatch Post # 9929 in Elmwood. Dick enjoyed gardening, going to the beach and fishing but most of all he cherished his time with his family which was the world to him. Besides his devoted wife of 54 years, Rose, he is survived by four loving children: three sons, Kenneth Cavanaugh and his wife Karyn of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kevin Cavanaugh and his wife Jennifer of Wethersfield, and Daniel Cavanaugh and his wife Lynn of Colchester, a daughter, Ann Duhamel and her husband Paul of Columbia; a sister, Elizabeth Resony of Wethersfield; and 10 adored grandchildren, Clay, Charlotte and Maeve Cavanaugh of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Tom and Molly Cavanaugh of Wethersfield, Christopher and Andrew Cavanaugh of Colchester, and Patrick, Lauren and Nikki Duhamel of Columbia. Dick is also survived by two sister-in-laws, BettyAnn Cavanaugh of Newington and Pat Carlson and her husband Bill of Berlin as well as many adored nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Jack Cavanaugh.
The funeral is Tuesday, June 19 beginning at 11 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Calling hours will also be on Tuesday, June 19, from 9-11 a.m., prior to the mass, at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel.
