Francis "Unc" ACERBO

Obituary Condolences

ACERBO, Francis "Unc"
Francis "Unc" Acerbo of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Newington, entered into eternal peace on Friday, (September 7, 2012). Born on June 6, 1923 in Boston, MA. He grew up in Revere, MA and ran a business selling fish from a truck in downtown Boston. As a boy he also worked at the Wonderland greyhound track in Revere leading the dogs to the starting line. He moved to Hartford in 1955 and worked with his Brother-in-law and best friend Bill Fetzer at Nutmeg Auto Service until 1982. His friendly personality, excellent customer service and words of wisdom made him many friends at the gas pump. He was a diehard Red Sox and Patriots fan and never gave up on either of them. He loved the horses and usually could be found studying the racing form for a sure $2 bet. He never married but had many female admirers. He swooned over the perfect woman, actress Sofia Loren. Frank read the Boston Globe and The Hartford Courant every day cover to cover. He was intelligent and articulate as any man with a master's degree. Always had strong opinions about politics and welcomed a healthy argument. Francis moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1993 where he lived with his sister Laura and brother-in-law Bill. He attended St. Lucie Catholic Church every Sunday and enjoyed his friends and family in the area. He is survived by his sister Laura Fetzer of Port St. Luce Florida; nephew Frank Fetzer and Jeannette of Bolton, Connecticut; grand nephew and grand niece Austin and Jennie Fetzer; niece Wilma McNicholas of Port St. Lucie, FL; his cousins Nicholas Capano of East Hartford, Nicholas Ventola of Derry, NH, Gladys Munroe of Chelsea, MA.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, 11 a.m., at West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. To share a memory with his family, please visit us at www.newingtonmemorial.com.
